I have always delighted in working with beautiful fabrics and textiles, and quilting has allowed me to buy and stash more than I could have ever thought possible!
After 30 years of working in fashion design and pattern making, the urge to create new things in fabric and textiles took my interest into cloth dolls and heirloom bear making. Always on the lookout for further challenges, in 1999 I made my first quilt by chance and was so captivated that I started committing all my spare time to quilting. I became involved with several quilting and friendship groups where I’ve met wonderful people and have been crafting my passion ever since…I had no idea where quilting would take me in such a short span of time and I'm still exploring and learning.
I have tried many techniques and stenciling has caught my eye as a traditional yet mostly forgotten quilting method. It's actually one of the earliest quilting techniques and I love the versatility and history each stencil design invokes. Whether embellishing fabrics or creating elaborate block designs, stencilling is so versatile and allows so much room for development that it’s always a delight to both experiment with and teach this technique. I think I’ve stumbled across the perfect art which incorporates the potential for so many skills. From the inception of an idea to the final labor of love – quilting, there are so many ideas and challenges just waiting to be made and explored.
At the moment I am developing and experimenting with various stencil techniques for my next quilt design, of which there is always another work in progress. As well as a healthy UFO list that needs some attention, I also design free BOM's. See my blog for updates or to take part.
