The tulip has a strong folk tradition and is thought to be one of the earliest motifs to appear in paintings. It has been used symbolically to represent the ‘flame of Christ’ and a red tulip in floriography represents a declaration of irresistible, passionate love.

The tulip’s bell shaped curves have induced countless interpretations through all folk handwork, often incorporating hearts, spears, feathers and flame like tendrils.Of course, many of us know tulips as being the flowers of spring, joy and inspiration.

In The Pink is a bed quilt, celebrating the renewal of spring through a design of tulips, birds and greenery.
