The Art of Stenciling
Stenciling is not new: in fact, it is one of the oldest and most authentic quilting techniques

You might be surprised to learn that stencilling is, in fact, an heirloom quilting technique. It has been with us since the earliest quilts were being designed.
Stencilling today is unfortunately undervalued - why this is the case- I can't say for certain. It involves a high level of skill and ingenuity and is intensely rewarding.
Perhaps the ease of the stencilling process itself (once you know what you are doing) devalues its contribution to our rich history?
It hardly seems warranted given that finding better ways of doing things is generally so welcome in the quilting tradition.
Is it possible stencilling has simply been forgotten?
Why not visit my Original Stencil Quilt Gallery to see how versatile Stencil Quilts really are! All quilts are my own designs, made from my own stencils. Rewarding and innovative! |

I feel so strongly that stencilling is a technique everyone should try - that I am offering my original stencil pattern Tulip Delight Table Runner for free, for you to stencil.
Tulip Delight is a perfect introductory project. It’s a manageable size with enough scope to challenge and inspire you without being overwhelming. Once you are enjoying your table runner, you might think about creating a stencil block in your next quilt…or even a whole cloth stencil.
